Dr. Spencer is Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. He is Director of the OHSU Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, Director of the OHSU Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Program, and former Director of the OHSU Neurology Residency Program.
Dr. Spencer completed his undergraduate training at Harvard University and earned his MD at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating, he completed both his Neurology residency and fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy at Stanford University in Stanford, CA.
He has been involved in many areas of neurology and epilepsy education, including serving as editor for Neurology (Patient Page) and on the professional advisory board of Neurology Now. He has served on education committees for the American Epilepsy Society and is a member of the American Epilepsy Society and fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He has twice been recognized by the OHSU Neurology Residents with the Hammerstad teaching award.
Dr. Spencer’s research interests include neuroimaging, electrical stimulation as a treatment of epilepsy, and neurology education. He maintains an active epilepsy practice and enjoys both medical and surgical management of epilepsy.
