Rachael B. Pollina, MS, MSN, RN, OCN®, FNP-BC completed a BS and MS in Microbiology in 2003 and 2004, respectively. She became a nurse in 2009 after changing careers from microbiology research. Although lab work was interesting, Ms. Pollina deemed her calling was to help people in real time. Her career at Sloan Kettering began in early 2010, first inpatient at the bedside and then outpatient as a chemotherapy RN. During this time, she went back to school to become an NP and then accepted a position as a Thoracic Research Nurse Practitioner. Her career combines both clinical patient care and research. Ms. Pollina is interested in mutations that drive our patients’ cancer as well as immunotherapy that stimulates the immune system to combat the cancer. She currently manages patients enrolled in clinical trials at Sloan Kettering and strives to keep her patients’ quality of life stable by managing side effects and promoting good health practices.
