Overview

Oncology nurse clinical specialists and advanced practice nurses will gain an appreciation of the latest advances in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) including updates on epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), as well as the importance of EGFR mutation testing and broader molecular profiling for tailoring therapy and improving patient outcomes. Practical strategies for implementing novel agents, including companion diagnostic testing, will be incorporated into this case-based presentation. Nurses will review evolving treatment paradigms to better engage in a more promising era in NSCLC outcomes by improving their understanding of new testing tools, how treatments align to individual patient characteristics, and how to better communicate with the patient and family to reduce adverse effects and improve adherence. Handout materials will include practice-based resources to help the nurse recall and reference novel treatment options.
